A Ministry of Compassion and Wholeness

Homelessness Prevention

We offer several resources to prevent homelessness, including referral services, utility assistance, and Beeson Senior Services. Here are details about the programs administered by our Homelessness Prevention social worker for people who are homeless or housing-unstable:
  • The Homelessness Management Information Systems (HMIS) Continuum of Care card is offered in partnership with One Roof Alabama. By providing these state-sponsored photo IDs to clients, we can help them access other important social services including health services, SNAP, housing programs, and more.
  • The Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG) is funded by HUD through a City Development Block Grant. It allows us to provide rent and utility assistance on a short-term emergency basis.

To be eligible for HPRP assistance, you must:

  • be homeless or at risk of becoming homeless

  • have recently lost a job due to the economic recession

  • live in Birmingham City limits

  • meet the low-income requirement for your family size
