A Ministry of Compassion and Wholeness

Urban Kids

Our Mission

Helping Birmingham youth grow through academic enrichment, health and wellness support, creative arts, and character development.

Our Goals

To provide a safe environment, build supportive relationships, produce healthy interactions, and foster high levels of engagement.

Who we are

Urban Kids is located at the Urban Ministry building in the heart of the West End Community, across from Hemphill Elementary School. We have served Birmingham youth with free enrichment programs for more than 20 years. Currently we operate our Afterschool Program for third through eighth graders four days a week during the school year and a Summer Learning Program for rising fourth, fifth and sixth graders for seven weeks during the summer.

Our Staff

Urban Kids employs one full-time director, Kuryne Lee; 3 part-time staff assistants Larry, Lindsay and Stephanie; and over 100 adult and student volunteers, including Birmingham-Southern College Education students.

Who we serve

Each year, we enroll 30 third through eighth grade children and youth in our after-school program. This year, we are enrolling an additional 20 new students in our summer learning program, focused exclusively on third-fifth graders.

To register your 3rd, 4th, or 5th grade student in our Summer Learning Program, contact Kuryne Lee at 781-0517 or 451-0822.
